Hello again from Scott and Susan. We left off last month getting our butts out of Butte, Montana heading east after three inches of snow fell on us. The pictures above are from adventures we described in our last newsletter, our trip to the Gorge near Portland and our plane ride to have dinner in another town with Dave and Stacy.

Mount Rushmore, SD – What a rush to visit Mount Rushmore! Because the presidents look different depending on the angle of the sun, we chose to visit Mount Rushmore at different times of the day. While we watched the sun rise on their wise faces, we were greeted by some deer offering tours right on the veranda. (You can see them in the picture at the bottom.) We saw the presidents lit up at night. We even had a late breakfast there one morning and did some coaching calls under their expansive gaze.

It was also very cool to see the sites in the vicinity of Mount Rushmore. The Crazy Horse Memorial, even bigger than Mount Rushmore, won’t be finished for decades. So far they have completed Crazy Horses head, and are beginning the enormous task of cutting away the rock to form the horse he sits on. We also went to the National Presidential Wax Museum,, which was educational and fun. There was a display for each of the presidents, many of them in the context of what they were known for. Scott was bemused that Bush, Jr.’s display showed him at “Ground Zero” on top of the rubble with a fireman. That’s not the legacy most presidents would want to be remembered for. Hasn’t he done anything more noteworthy!? Next, we drove along a scenic byway which includes 2 tunnels which have a view of Mount Rushmore as you drive through them, rocks which look like needles sticking out of the ground, and animals roaming free such as wild turkeys, bison, and hairy goats. We also got an extended cave tour after our original cave tour was “affected” by a school group.

Twin Cities, MN – Ahhh, it’s wonderful to be back after being gone for ten months. We’re staying at a mobile home park in St. Anthony Village, mostly because of its central location. We’re certainly not here because of the view of mobile homes. We came back in May in order to celebrate the baptism of Susan’s nephew, Andrew. We welcome his sweet soul to make a difference in this world!

Whew! There is lots more we could have talked about including donkey drool on our car window, a wet trunk and an out of control awning. So, if you would like to know more details, feel free to give us a call (hint, hint).

Except for a few weekend jaunts, we are staying put in the Twin Cities until sometime around Labor Day. Give us a call if you would like to get together. Also, we will be informally celebrating Susan and Scott’s birthday at a performance by Scott’s favorite musician, Michael Monroe on August 13, 7:30pm at the Lake Harriet Band Shell. Save the date!
